Open-access resources to advance more equitable and inclusive research, policy, and practice in Canada and beyond

Welcome! After six years with institutional limbo and funding wind down, in September 2024 CGSHE closed its doors as an academic centre and transitioned to an online repository of open-access research education resources, or a Collaborative of Gender and Sexual Health Equity Research Education Resources (“CGSHE”). Here, you will find freely available resources to advance more equitable and inclusive research, policy, and practice in Canada and globally–from research equity toolkits and decolonizing research learnings to research education and knowledge translation sessions with leading local and international gender and sexual health equity research and methods experts, created from 2018-2024. As a commitment to facilitating open access and ensuring resources remain available and accessible, all can be used and shared freely within your networks, with appropriate credit to authors, speakers, & CGSHE.

History: CGSHE originally came together in 2018 as a virtual and in-person network of over 30 faculty across UBC, SFU, and beyond dedicated to advancing gender and sexual health equity research education, KT mobilization, policy, and practice, supported entirely through external funding, including a one-time Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) operating grant and funds from Ministry of Women and Gender Equality, MacAIDS, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Initially established as a provincially networked academic centre hosted at Providence Health Care, CGSHE eventually became a recognized UBC faculty of medicine research centre.

In 2022, CGSHE was exited from its host institution, Providence Health Care, due to lack of alignment on reproductive health and trans health justice. Without secure long-term funding and following years of institutional limbo, CGSHE decided to close its doors as a centre.

A special thanks to everyone who has helped, collaborated, and shared their wisdom and passion to build the amazing resources, KT, and learnings over the years.Â
