About the Talk

To imagine and reimagine a more just global health, Dr. Amaya Perez-Brumer asks you to join her in sitting with the discomfort of the following question, “Does global health make data or does global health make health?” To begin to think through this question, she will discuss three ongoing paradoxes rooted in the extractive logics at the center of global HIV prevention science.

About the Speaker

Dr. Amaya Perez-Brumer is a Latinx critical global health scholar, Assistant Professor in the Division of Social and Behavioural Health Science at the University of Toronto, and a CIHR Canada Research Chair in Global Health Intervention Justice. She is also a status-only faculty member for the Women & Gender Studies Institute at the University of Toronto. Dr. Perez-Brumer earned her PhD in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University and hold an MSc in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
