Sisonke National Sex Worker Movement

Cape Town, South Africa

Sisonke is a movement of sex workers, by sex workers. It has offices in 4 provinces, based in partnership organisations, and its primary focus is on mobilising sex workers to speak out on issues of importance to them. Sisonke works with female, male and transgender sex workers in full favour of decriminalisation of sex work, capacitating sex workers free legal and paralegal advice, counselling referrals, outreach consisting of health and legal services and distribution of condoms, safe sex and human rights library materials.

Sisonke is a sex worker led non-profit organisation advocating for the decriminalisation of adult, consented sex work in South Africa, allowing elimination of human rights violations and thereby affording sex workers, a key population, an opportunity for full access to healthcare and equality before law. Our vision is to see a South Africa where sex work is recognised as work, where sex workers’ health and human rights are ensured. Our aim is to unite sex workers, improve our living and working conditions and fight for equal access to basic human rights.
